There are many forms of caring. Each form means something different to each of us and each holds more or less value to each of us. However, to me, one of the most important ones, especially in today’s society is listening.

Why do I say this? I say this because so many of us have our faces planted into a screen most of the time. photoWe get irritated when we are interrupted by our children, our wives our husbands, our friends and really anyone when we are watching the latest cat video.

The thing is you never realize how this makes the other feel because they do it to you too, but it hurts. It chips away at each of us little by little and bit by bit until it no longer bothers us and we think that this is okay. It is not okay. Do you remember what it meant when it mattered what others had to say? Do you remember when you cared and you listened?

So let me now refresh our memories on what caring is. Caring is letting things matter to us, including other people. It means valuing their well-being and acting with attention to their needs. When we care about someone or something, we hold a consciousness of what can harm them and what is needed for them to flourish as well as to perish. Acts of kindness and words that let others know that we care. Our caring can comfort another person even when neither of us has the power to change a difficult situation.

Each of us are so much more that the most perfect and beautiful thing that we have ever seen or heard. What good is it though if we cannot see it, if we do not notice it or ignore it?

Each of us make our world sparkle a bit more by our participation in it. We each bring more life to the world by living life and we give meaning to the words of others by listening to what they say.

All that you experience or can experience is part of you, you are so much a part of it, and each day lays before you, before all of us, a world full of opportunity, love, hope, change and connections.

That is if you pull your faces away from your screens, look around, and open your ears to the sounds of life. It is your experience, it is your joy and it is your responsibility so live LIFE to the fullest.
