“Out of the night that covers us, black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeoning’s of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, and yet waythe menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”

I paraphrased this a bit from a writing called, “Invictus”. My reason for sharing this is to say that we, you and I, are each in control even when we lose control. Sometimes we need help along the way and that is fine for when we ask for help it shows that we are indeed in control. It shows that we are determined.

However, what is determination? Simply put it is the pursuance of a goal, a dream with focus, with energy and with drive. Determination helps us to remain focused on a purpose that is dear to us. Our determination is the one thing that we use to ensure defeat is never permanent.

Life is life for each of us and we each will find ourselves distracted from our dreams, goals and even life itself by the very demons and desires of this very life. Many times, we are overcome by pain, fatigue, obstacles or isolation. It is during these times that our determination drives us, our actions, our thoughts and our souls, to push onward and even ask for help when we need it.

Friends, remember that our determination keeps us on a path and helps us to make each of our dreams into realities. It helps us to overcome the personal obstacles that we encounter from time to time and allows us to live by our highest values.
